GREEN MAN RECORD FALLS ONCE MORE
10:40 – 12 January 2008

Pete Darwood of Bishopston and Tim Laney of Bath have smashed the record for the Green Man Challenge around Bristol. As reported in the Post last year, Chris Bloor of Town & Country Harriers had launched the challenge on footpaths in the Forest of Avon to illustrate the fact that you can run around Greater Bristol almost entirely off-road.Nailsea Running Club’s Chris Smart set the initial record of 11 hours 58 minutes, which was subsequently improved to 9hrs 49mins by former TACH runner Mark Vogan on Christmas Eve.

But his record did not even last until Twelfth Night as Darwood and Laney carved almost an hour off the time with an impressive 8hrs 51mins for a course they measured at 45.87 miles.

“That is a fantastic effort,” said Bloor.
